Pyridoxal-5-phosphate Monohydrate (PLP, pyridoxal 5'-phosphate, P5P) is vitamin B6 metabolite that acts as a coenzyme in transamination reactions by forming a Schiff-base linkage with lysine groups on aminotransferase. Also serves as a coenzyme in some decarboxylation and deamination reactions. Can modify lysyl and valyl residues in proteins. Has the ability to inhibit purinergic receptors and intracellular influx of Ca2+.
Role in Anxiety & Sleep
Older studies reported low B6 levels in people with anxiety, but newer studies debunked them. People with depression have low B6 levels, and this might explain why supplementing with vitamin B6 reduced anxiety in people with depression in some clinical trials . Pyridoxal-5-phosphate Monohydrate is needed for the production of melatonin, also known as the sleep hormone. Research hasn't found a direct link between Pyridoxal-5-phosphate Monohydrate levels and insomnia, but taking vitamin B6 before bed increased melatonin release from the pineal gland in a study of 120 children .
Impact on Brain Cells
Pyridoxal 5-phosphate Monohydrate drives the activity of over 100 enzymes in your body. It's especially important for brain health. Enzymes that create the following neurotransmitters need optimal levels of Pyridoxal 5 phosphate Monohydrate to work
