Carmine is a natural colorant derived from the cochineal insect Dactylopius Coccus Costa which grows on cacti in Central and South America.
Nowadays a large part of the cochineal comes from Peru where it grows in nature as well as on plantations due to the ideal climate of the country.
1. Can be used for lipstick, foundation, eye shadow, eyeliner, nail polish and baby products.
2. Cochineal powder is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a coating for tablets and pellets and as a coloring agent for capsule shells.
3. Cochineal powder can also be used for coloring foods such as sweets, drinks and meat products.
Cochineal powder and yellow, orange, red pigment, such as curcumin, bismuth orange, red peppers, β-carotene mix can be adjusted out a series of different shades of products.
